David wrote Psalm 27:4 when king ‘One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.’ – why? Like the rooms? Furniture? Theological symbols? This what we often emphasize!
No! ‘Gaze on beauty’ How? Presence – enables perception – feeling / revelation / hearing / vision / understanding / insight / experiential knowledge
– Importance of being in the Spirit – not just having the Spirit in us.
– ‘on in the Lord’s day I was in the Spirit’
Times of Revival, refreshing known for presence – Toronto Blessing – 6 nights a week
Lets look at some Presence Verses:
2 Chronicles 5:13-14 Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.
– note they sang, made music – the presence filled the temple
– presence stopped normal proceedings – revival times – Biblical
Acts 3:19-20 Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord
– presence refreshes – again and again (times)
Exodus 33.14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
– rest: when God’s in control – where he rules
Psalm 16:11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy
