The Trinity: hard to describe, but easy to experience.

Speakers notes follow –
Holy, holy, holy
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts (Col 3.16)
Holy, holy, holy – God in three persons, blessed trinity – Across Old Town
Word ‘Trinity’ not in Bible – JW/Islam – Trinity describes a Bible phenomenon – OT talks of God as Creator/Father of all, Gospels talk of Jesus as God incarnate, Epistles talk of Spirit as God in us
Believers wrote out of experience of God – hard to box/label experience – eg. Skydiving – enjoyed or scary = awesome? Trinity best attempt to describe witnesses experience
Songs are an experience based medium – Psalms born of relationship – Sermon today out of my experience of worship – worship brings revelation + revelation brings worship
Holy, holy, holy – there is none besides thee – take away creation – what’s left? God!
Ask atheist – take away natural, whats left? Nothing. IE. Everything came from nothing. Thats great faith!
Richard Dawkins & Cardinal George Pell Video – defining nothing!
You’re the One – Big statement! Ultimate existence – everpresent – I AM
Our source gives meaning – NASA – Why this rocket: To go to moon – if nothing made us – no purpose/meaning – You’re the One who made – very important!
Should we ignore The One? Many think its arrogant to demand worship – but its both appropriate and needed
Do we ignore parents, president? Worship connects to ultimate source
All humans connected via universe by default – we are dust – but God calls us to connect relationally – relationship with God makes us more than dust / than intelligent animals
Romans 1.21 & 25 – Refuse to thank – thinking became futile
So God is our source – Father – the One – I AM – ultimate existence
Our God is greater – water you turned into wine – Jesus greater than all human ‘gods’
Ancients had finite (limited) gods – Egypt plagues: Nile, Frog, Snake eats snake – Greeks & Romans – Artemis, Zeus & Hermes (Paul + Barnabas) – Emperor Caesar
Do we have finite gods? Mandela / MJ / Beyonce / Ghandi / Mohammad / Luther-King / Gurus
Guru imprisoned for rape x2
Raila or Uhuru – big issue? Are they great examples?
Look at Jesus! Water into wine – opened eyes – rose from dead
But Jesus is gone – distant memory – read about like Ghandi?
No, The King is Among Us – glory surrounds us as we sing
Disciples went thru it – dejected – risen – Spirit – he’s among us!
Here as in Heaven (he is) – atmosphere is changing now
Christ in me is to live – to die is to gain – in us by Spirit – die so he lives thru us – The One in us!
You may find Trinity hard to understand – but like early believers you’ve experienced the Trinity
Our songs testify to our experience in a similar way to NT writings
My title: Holy, holy, holy
My verse: Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts …
Lets sing!
