Scripture says David’s tabernacle will be restored. He arranged musicians to worship before the ark of God’s Presence. It was heart beyond law, and intimacy beyond curtain. More Lord!
Speakers notes follow –
The Restoration of Worship
Acts 15.16-18 After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it, that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things’— things known from long ago.
Wailing Wall – what was / what now is – Tabernacle/Temple – sad for Jews
Rebuild / Restore Davids Tent – that mankind may seek the Lord
David’s Tabernacle? 1 Chron 15.28-16.11 Sounds like modern church!
Moses – three divisions – priestly ritual – Levitical Law – curtain
David – simple tent – no curtain – song & music – not Law but heart of the Law
– worship before Ark on road – Levites before Ark (1 Chron 16.4,6)
Has it been restored?
Jesus – destroy/rebuild 3 days – curtain torn – Law replaced by Spirit of the Law
Jesus said “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem … a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4.21-24)
Spirit & Truth – essentials of restored worship
In Truth – sincere
Outward appearances can be deceiving – God sees heart – Rev 3.2 Sardis ‘you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead’
Caledonian Ball – folk dancing – fun / alive – not due to God’s presence – Worship alive when God moves – if we move and God doesn’t – its a charade
Sincerity – your actions reflect your heart – be real not fake
Holiness – Song must match lifestyle – to be real not fake
Rev 4. 8 – ‘Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty’ (3 is emphasis)
Sin separates – curtain – Holy of Holies – only the clean can enter
We are clean – covenant secure – but relationship broken
Wishing weren’t married – Christian but wish you weren’t – needs fixing
Psalm 15.1-5 “Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart.
Real worship requires real repentance – song & lifestyle match
In Spirit – sensitive and united
Spirit like dove (Mt 3.16) Dove land on you? London – flighty – right conditions – sensitive to God and others
Worship has – Music, Poetry, Intimacy, Presence – requires Sensitivity & flow
Jubal (Gen 4.21) means Flow as stream – insensitivity breaks it
Romantic Evening – about to kiss – interruption
Worship team work transitions – we arrive late, tap a friend, outstanding instead of camaflaged singing – flow requires character
Jesus withdrew / Paul taught order – aids connection with Spirit
Sensitivity is about oneness with – God and brother – next point
(Ps 133) ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
Oil – anointing / dew – refreshing – there his blessing – his life
Leave gift at the altar (sacrifice) be restored to bro (Jesus)
Chron 5. 12-14 unison / one voice – presence fell (Pentecost too)
Corporate Anointing – power at the front – as you walk in door
Toronto – caught at gatherings only – people flew to get it
Gifts corporate thing – building up body
David’s Tent before split of Judah & Isreal – united worship
Jesus not returning for individuals – but for his church
Summary – Restoring David’s Tent – Worshipers in Spirit & Truth
– Sincere & Holy / United & Sensitive
